Remote-Learner has announced to its academic clients using the Datatel Colleague student information system immediate availability of a Moodle integration connector, that can be easily administered. Using the native Datatel export function organizations can now get at their data, including user account and course enrollment information, and automatically perform the following tasks:

  • enroll and unenroll students in their Moodle courses
  • create user accounts and synchronize profile information (if LDAP is not an option)
  • generate Moodle course shells from a template if the course does not yet exist

The Remote-Learner Moodle/Datatel integration is a batch process automated to run nightly, a procedure already familiar to IT staff. Remote-Learner provides scripts that automate the extraction of data from the Colleague system, as well as instructions on where and how to transfer those files to the Moodle server. Once received at the designated location the files are automatically extracted and synchronized with the Moodle database at a pre-determined time, all without any manual intervention. Four simple steps, all automated with a one-time only setup:

  • R-L Integration Point script creates a comma delimited text file containing student profile data for new user accounts
  • R-L Integration Point script creates comma delimited file containing student enrollments
  • R-L Integration Point script sends files to the Moodle server
  • Files are processed into a database that Moodle will reference when updating it’s records
