Determining what's involved with developing a course, and how much it will cost, starts with a scope investigation or exploratory period between your organization and Remote-Learner. During scope we are actually beginning the first stage of project management. Project managment is defined by several well established steps that stakeholders must go through to reach a desired outcome, including:
- Scope Investigation
- Change Management
- Planning for Outcomes
- Resource Management
- Successful Delivery
- Monitoring and Evaluation
Typically, few clients come to us with their instructional design project fully scoped. There may be a fairly comprehensive syllabus developed that includes a list of contextual activities, assessment activities, multi-media elements and ideas for certification and record keeping, but that is where scope generally begins. If a less formal plan for the online course is all that exists (i.e., "I have it in my head"), then scope must necessarily be more involved if there is any hope of giving the future student a valid learning experience.
Remote-Learner does not charge for scope investigation involving a single course. If there is a need to develop several courses as part of a catalog or curriculum offering, Remote-Learner has a Strategic Consulting group that can work with a client on an end-to-end solution. In scoping a single course we have audit forms that can greatly help in determining the full scope of the project, which can help us quickly arrive at costs involved in development. We also offer blocks of consulting time to help prepare for the scope investigation if that is needed.
Remote-Learner is pleased to showcase the following example courses for review. If you would like to access any of these examples and review them from the learners prospective, simply create a user account at the Login prompt and then respond to the confirmation email you will receive. By reviewing these courses you may develop ideas for your course in terms of the complexity or simplicity you would like to achieve as an outcome.
