Intermediate Moodle Course Development

This four-week facilitated online course moves beyond the Moodle basics and picks up where Foundations of Moodle Course Development ends. Each week provides opportunities to practice skills related to some of Moodle’s most interesting features. Participants explore advanced Moodle functionality while building a sample course in a provided sandbox. Participants have access to the course material, along with their sample courses, for one month following the last day of the course.

Participants will:

  • Utilize glossaries and databases to provide quick, organized access to terminology and resources
  • Construct wikis to facilitate collaboration and leverage learner’s collective experiences
  • Create groups to manage learners and differentiate instruction
  • Develop lessons to deliver content that adapts to the responses of the learner
  • Track student activity and evaluate the value of course resources through Moodle’s reports
  • Define custom scales, weight grades and other advanced gradebook functionality
  • Develop ways to organize the gradebook by creating categories and grade items
  • Construct ways to gather course feedback through the feedback and questionnaire modules
  • Identify when it is necessary to assign a role for a specific activity or resource and understand what type of role is needed
  • Utilize conditional release and activity completion to allow access to activities and resources depending on various conditions

Required Background
To successfully complete this course, participants must:

  • Complete Foundations of Moodle Course Development (or an equivalent)
  • Understand the organizational goals or philosophy that Moodle is being used to address
  • Required Materials

Required Materials
To successfully complete this course, participants will need:

  • Access to Remote-Learner training course
  • Use of a personal computer with Internet access, Adobe Reader, and Adobe Flash Player
  • Internet access that allows connection to Adobe Connect sessions
     

Please anticipate a time commitment of 4-6 hours per week for course participation. Changes to enrollment following the course start date will be accessed a $50 fee.
