Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).  It is an open source web application that educators can use to create effective online learning sites. In fact, Moodle is the most widely used online learning system in the world today with an installed base of over 45,000 sites in 205 countries. This fact means that there is a very broad base of resources available for Moodle and that its open nature allows for complete portability.

Open source software allows an organization to permanetely jump off the annual licensing merry-go-round and control learning technology costs. Moodle is supported by an authorized network of Moodle partners companies; there are over 50 such companies worldwide with Remote-Learner being the leading partner in North America. Organizations pay only for the services they need in support of their online learning initiative. Remote-Learner provides SaaS Hosting Support, Training, Instructional Design and Customization services in support of Moodle and other open source learning programs.

Moodle's feature rich environment supports all forms of online pedagogy including sequenced-based activities leading to a grade or certificate, and social learning in a collaborative environment.
